Process Paper
Our topic that we chose was about the actions of Harriet Tubman. Harriet Tubman was an abolitionist against slavery and was one of the leaders of the famous “Underground Railroad”. The both of us were really moved about this topic and we decided to research this to spread her story onto others. We wanted to make the individuals around us to be inspired by her actions so that maybe someday, they’ll have a heart like hers to make the world a better place. This topic was mainly chosen because Harriet Tubman is not present to tell her life-changing story, so this project is for her so that her story will be passed on to others forever.
Our research consisted of many different forms however; we mainly decided to base our research on books and websites. The place we found our research at was from the Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Midkiff Library. This library consisted of many books regarding slavery and Harriet Tubman. After reading and gathering books, much information was still needed. Since our sources were limited in the library, we chose to use our computers for the remainder of the project. After researching and examining websites about Harriet Tubman, we finally gathered all the needed information that would make our project whole. Extracting all the information was a long process, but in the end we were able to filter it into our own story of Harriet Tubman.
The way we decided to present our project was to present it through a website. We chose to present it through a website because we knew if other people around world wanted to research Harriet Tubman, they could just visit our site to help them on their project. We also knew that by making a website it would spread the information around the world. We chose it because we knew that if we did a board, only one person could work on it at a time while making a website we both could work on it so the workload would be split in half.
Our project relates to the NHD theme because Harriet Tubman took it upon herself that it was her right and responsibility to stand up for her people and free them from forced slavery. Harriet Tubman knew that if someone didn’t do something, nothing would change and black citizens wouldn’t be free from slavery.
